Medicare-eligible people in Australia with high annual medicine costs
- Eligibility
- Available to everyone with Medicare. Once a family's PBS copayments pass the annual threshold, further PBS medicines cost less (general patients) or nothing (concession card holders) for the rest of the calendar year.
- Application
- Keep a record of your PBS/RPBS medicine costs, then apply for a Safety Net card through Services Australia, typically with help from your pharmacist.
- Restrictions
- Threshold amounts are indexed annually. Applies only to PBS-listed medicines; private prescriptions do not count.
